More than 1 million cards per year

In the southeast of Africa the Republic of Mozambique makes use of Semlex (AFIS) identification systems. It was required to replace the old PVC card–based solution using desktop printers for issuing National ID-cards, for one that provided a safer and more robust alternative. So a new solution was selected by the responsible authority, the Centro Prod. De Doc. De Identificao located in the capital city Maputo. As a result they now produce about 1 million high-quality laser engraved cards every year by using the industrial automated Datacard systems.

In cooperation with Semlex, multiple Datacard MX1100 systems were supplied that were configured with Laser- and Verification-modules. Personal data, MRZ-lines and a 3D barcodes are highly secured by the use of laser engraving technology. This personalizes the data into the card surface, after which they are automatically verified with the records in the data stream. Along with this change of personalization technique, the "Bilhete De Identitidade" (the national ID-card) was changed to an improved and highly tamper-resistant polycarbonate card.

Training and support

Equally as important as the purchasing of the new automated personalization systems was the commissioning and maintenance of the equipment. The great distances between the organizations involved meant that to achieve a successful implementation, local Semlex staff had to be extensively trained. In addition our experienced production staff and technical team were made fully available for support during the project start up.
